News and Gossip Tidbits
July 17, 2007
Child, please, what a
week. I feel like I'm going to drop dead in the floor right here,
right now.
I can't, however,
sleep one tiny wink more until I get my much delayed column out to my
darlings! Since I'm going to be sucking dry the marrow from every
gossip bone I can find, I will need for this column to be both for last
week and this week. It's not fair to you, I know, and that breaks my
heart, but it's the way this week is going to have to work, so let's make
it a really gigantic column with lots of goodies, shall we? I'll be
devoting the rest of the week to producing some current commentary for
you, some good stuff for the Fun House and of course, that promised off
topic column.
So off we go!
AMC
You've
probably already read how next week's Zendall crisis goes down.
Rachel has an emergency and Kendall decides to take Spike with her on a
Fusion trip to New York for the all important Fusion Green concept launch.
As they are driving there, Kendall goes into early labor, so Babe pulls
over the car. She ends up leaving Spike in Greenlee's care who is
supposed to follow them to the hospital. Greenlee has a moment of
temporary insanity (I am working hard to not comment on the "temporary"
part) and thinks about kidnapping him, but ends up flipping the car over
instead. Greenlee manages to get a phone call out to Ryan before she
loses consciousness. Aidan traces the call and they hurry off to a
rock quarry where they find the wrecked car and an empty car seat thrown
from the car. Kendall is being rushed into emergency surgery to save
her baby and she sees Spike on another emergency surgery gurney! BIG
soapy drama!!
Watch
for some cool "on location" shooting when Ryan and Zach find out what's
going on with Kendall and have to hurry back to Pine Valley. They
ditch their limo, which is stuck in traffic, and fly home in a helicopter.
Cameron Mathison (Ryan) gave huge props to his co-star, Alicia Minshew
(Kendall) for her performance as Kendall realizes that both of her
sons are in danger.
Speaking of Spike, he has been recast with triplets: Alexander,
Benjamin and Caleb Eckstein. The previous baby actors, Ava and Julia
Farrar, were recast because their looks had become decidedly too feminine
to portray someone named Spike.
Annie
is going to have family in town now as her brother, Ritchie, is cast.
A
casting call is also out for "Walter," a white male in his late 40's,
early 50's who is proficient in American Sign Language. This is
connected to the spoiler that Spike ends up losing his hearing in the car
accident. Also casting is the role of Dre, an African-American teen
in a hip-hop band.
Sources say that Justin Bruening (Jamie) has taped his final scenes with
the show and that wife, Alexa Havins (Babe), may also be on the way out.
Both have voiced a dedicated interest in leaving NY for the West Coast to
explore new career options.
I may
not enjoy combined couple names much, but Jeff Branson (Jonathan) is
pretty happy with the Jonathan-Ava combo: Java. Says Branson, "I
think from all the names I've heard, this is probably one of the best
because I love coffee."
Alexa
Havin was a little taken aback to learn that Audrey Eakes, mother of
Bobbie Eakes (Krystal) had just gotten a dog and named it Babe. Her
onscreen mother was quick to explain that it's quite a compliment, saying,
"My sister had a dog named Macy." (Macy was Eakes' characer's name
on B&B).
Love
the wonderful "Green Is Always In" t-shirts the Fusion girls were wearing
at the (awful) pep rally? Well, YOU TOO can own a Fusion "Green Is
Always In" shirt on abc.com!!
OLTL
On August 17, 2007, “One
Life to Live” will celebrate the airing of their 10,000th episode, but on
Sunday actually marks the 39th anniversary of the debut of the show.
Through thick and thin, "Between Heaven and Hell" and through good writing
and bad, OLTL has stood the test of time, made us laugh, made us cry and
made us throw things at the TV. Happy 39th, Friend!
Marty will finally,
finally confess why she married Miles...just as Starr and Blair arrive.
Newly crowned head
writer, Ron Carlivati has promised that one of his main goals in retooling
OLTL is to inject humor into the drama. As a fan of the stories in
which the show went back in time to the Old West and to heaven and hell,
he also plans to up the fantasy level. He promises to go "back to
the basics and [focus] on who [the] characters are and what their
connections are."
Chris Beetem (Tate)
wasn't thrilled when he was revealed to be the racist arsonist in
Llanview. He says, "It's always difficult when things don't go the
way you thought they would, but it's business and I'm learning that you
just roll with the punches." Beetam will exit the show in August
after six months and plans to pursue prime time ventures.
Doh!
Although I am tremendously excited about the August 17th return of Nathan
Fillion as Joey Buchanan, it wasn't great news to Don Jeffcoat, the next
to the last Joey (Fillion was second from the last with Bruce Michael Hall
as the last and most regrettable Joey - agh - atrocious casting),
who says he was also contacted by the show about a return and was thrilled
to accept. He had already spread the news to family and friends when he
learned that OLTL had instead sealed the deal with Fillion.
Jessica has barely lost
the lovely yellow tinge from her skin before a spoiler to the Nashica
marriage is introduced. Daytime newbie John Brotherton has been cast
as Jared Banks and will debut on August 21st. In the casting call,
he was referred to as "a British businessman." Has Nash been paying
attention to Jessica's m.o. where weddings are concerned lately?
They seem to be a major aphrodisiac to her...where other men are
concerned.
Jason-Shane Scott will
return as Will Rappaport in mid-September for what a show representative
describes as "numerous appearances."
Zach Roerig (Hunter)
will exit the show in August. The part was only ever intended to be
a 6-week stint to usher Sarah onto the screen.
Awwww. What th'
Tuc? Our favorite OLTL fun guy will be finalizing his most recent
stay on OLTL at the end of this month.
I couldn't agree with
actress Melissa Gallo (Adriana) who labels her onscreen persona as "A head
case."
Rumors are flying that
Andrea Evans may be bringing Tina back to Llanview. Although the actress
has been steadfast in her reminders that she is under contract to
"Passions" until it bites the dust on NBC and moves to DirecTV, there is
talk of a recurring role on OLTL in tandem with her "Passions"
appearances.
GH
Head writer, Bob Guza has good news in this
month's ABC Soaps In Depth when he assures us that the chances are good
that at some point, Cynthia Preston will be returning to the show "because
I just love her." He says, "I cannot tell you how many times I've
sat in this room and pitched Faith's twin, someone who looks like Faith or
even someone who doesn't [look like Faith]."
Night Shift's Cody (Graham Shiels) will
show up on GH on July 19th when we learn that he is an ex-war buddy of
Cooper, set to make Logan pay for something he did in Iraq.
Prepare for the chit to hit the fan as the
truth finally comes out by Elizabeth's admission to Lucky that she does,
in fact, love both him and Jason. You won't want to miss a
single day of next week's GH, I can tell you that! Sam gets
into Pentonville to try and explain to Jason why she said nothing about
seeing Jake kidnapped. Unfortunately for her (and fortunately for
us), she takes the wrong road and claims that her actions are Jason's
fault, claiming that his secret-keeping with Elizabeth pushed her to
the breaking point. While all of the reports say that Jason is done
with Sam after hearing this, I am told that it is actually Sam who breaks
up with Jason, threatening to tell Lucky the truth about Baby Jake.
He comes back at her by telling her that if she does, he'll have her
charged as an accomplice to Jake's kidnapping. She gets pissed and
throws the star necklace at him (You too can have your own star necklace
frisbee at "Shop the Soaps" on abc.com) and that, as they say, is that.
Sam then continues spreading her anger
around to Liz and Lucky while both Spinelli and Sonny visit Jason in
prison. Lucky stops by to tell Sam that Elizabeth loves Jason and
she goes off on him as well, stopping just short of telling him about
Jake. Carly goes off on Sam for dumping Jason (what?) and the two
get into a heavy duty cat fight (yeah!). They are interrupted by
Diane, who arrives with the police who want to search the penthouse.
All of this builds up to Jason's trial
which begins in a hail of bullets and will likely end with that much
awaited admission...but who will do it?
Here's a good one. Jerry offers to
clear Jason's name if Carly will just be "nice" to him.
Were you digging on Elizabeth's General
Hospital T-shirt she wore on the show earlier this month? That's
right YOU TOO can own such a shirt by going to

(Are you sensing the trend here yet?)
Kelly Monaco tells ABC Soaps In Depth that
she stopped watching GH around the time that Sam slept with Ric.
Well aware of the GH fans' dismay with the show, she said she hoped
"people would blink and miss it." She went on to say that everything
inside her was going, "There's no way this girl would do this." She
says that both she and co-star Steve Burton (Jason) were frustrated by the
snarkiness being interjected into the writing between Jason and Sam and
would give it their own interpretation "ninety-five percent of the time,"
saying they were always playing against the subtext of the script.
She openly confesses to riding on Burton's tenured coattails to do this,
"When it's Steve and I, we get a little bit more freedom. People
won't fight him as much as they fight the others."
Tony Geary is thrilled to hear that fans
who have seen his appearance as Edna in "Hairspray" think he looks like
actress Eve Arden. He's a long time fan of the "Grease" principal
and considers the reference to be quite a compliment.
Although it was promised that "Night Shift"
stories would not affect the flow of GH stories, the debut episode
featured a female patient named "Barrett" being admitted to GH.
Although speculation is high that the character is set to be a Brenda
return, my guess is that it is more likely her sister, Julia, who is
reported by Carolyn
Aspenson to be Cooper Barrett's mother...with AJ Quartermaine as his
father. Remember that Julia disappeared to Europe right after her
affair with AJ...
Everyone's favorite nerd, Bradford
Anderson, is quick to dismiss his newfound role as a Computer Sex God.
He says in Soap Opera Digest, "[Fans] don't want to take me to bed.
They just want to hug me and maybe give me a noogie." The character
of Spinelli was originally supposed to be called "Damo" and Anderson was
not informed of this until his first day of taping. He has been
acting since he was 6-years-old, when he played Tiny Tim in "A Christmas
Carol" and was voted Best Singer, Most Dramatic and Most Likely to Succeed
in high school. Steve Burton likens the teaming of Jason and
Spinelli to the comedy team of Laurel and Hardy.
On the subject of new fan favorites,
Sebastian Roche (that's pronounced Roe-Shay), has quite an illustrious
background, having worked opposite such greats as Al Pacino, Sir Anthony
Hopkins, John Malkovich and Robin Wright Penn.
And that, my precious readers, is all I
have for this week...
Stay cool, everyone!
